London-based chansonnier, musical cabaret performer and host of the renowned Pirate Jenny's club, a unique monthly musical cabaret night that soon became established as one of the capital's most provocative nights out, finally gets a long-deserved showcase for his hard-hitting songwriting and performance. Des de Moor is one of the few people in Britain developing new material in a broadly European cabaret tradition, infusing inspiration from the German theatre song of Brecht, Weill and Eisler and the chansons populaires of Brel and Brassens with influences more familiar to British audiences, drawing from Romantic lieder and Latin music as well as rock and folk. His own 'songs with something to say' combine pithy, often witty lyrics with sophisticated tunes, all dynamically and dramatically delivered in a powerful, individual voice. The result is divertingly unusual: adult and provocative but also warm, witty and accessible.
